Comments from the Other Side - OKC/Rockets 11/28

Some good stuff.  Enjoy today's Comments from the Other Side.  What are your favorites?

A bit worried the team will be too tired for this one, but it's no shame to lose to OKC. I hope we at least keep it close and just MAYBE pull off a win.

I don't know why I have a good feeling for this game, but I do. Familiar surroundings for Harden make for sure shots!

Westbrook will get angry and have a meltdown 4th qtr.

Martin actually scares me a bit. He's fully capable of going off if you're too focused on Westbrook and Durant, which you almost have to be.

Harden drops 90. Houston lose 95 - 90

Harden with 50+ against his former team.

Harden activates beast mode for 40 Asik gets 2x more blocks than Ibaka

Martin will want to prove something and we know how good he is when motivated.

Comments from the Other Side - OKC/Bobcats 11/26

Poor Bobcats.  Just when they were feeling pretty good about themselves, along comes the Thunder..    This is the third team  where someone mentioned the Thunder being cocky.   I don't see it. Maybe it's just winning swagger that they are mistaking for cockiness.   I've highlighted my favorite comments in bold.  What are yours?

Looking forward to the game This is a great measuring stick for us.

This game will be fun. They’re obviously much better, but it’s kind of a big brother-little brother match up with us modeling our success on the “Thunder Model”.

We still need to find our "Durrant" to have a shot at progressing to that level And the way the season is going we probably won’t have good lottery odds.

I hope MKG dunks on Durant and Ibaka at the same time.

I imagine that OKC is going to be a real eye-opener to the young guys. I'll be happy if we play solid and don't get overwhelmed by the names on the other team.

I'm really concerned about the OKC game. They have the potential to completely destroy us and it wouldn't be a good way to start this rough stretch of games.

I think Ibaka is gonna have a double digit block game

The only way the 'Cats win this game is if Westbrook do his best Batman impression, and make Durant his Robin.

Bobcats win, Kemba and MKG have monster games. OKC is caught sleeping

A Historic Win

The Oklahoma City Thunder made NBA history on Monday, becoming the first team in more than 20 years to put their opponents down by 40 points at halftime, eventually winning the game 114-69.

During the game, the OKC commentators were talking about Perk and how hard he works. That was nice. And then, he was named player of the game on the post game show. Good night all around!

Scott Brooks is a Smart Man

I get upset when I see calls for the Thunder to amnesty Perk. Thunder Rumblings covers the subject today.   Perk doesn't fill up the stat sheet, but anyone who watches what he does in games realizes that he is crucial to the success of this team.  Scott Brooks is one of those people who knows the importance of having Perk on the team.

Asked Monday morning if there is a competition to start at center, Thunder coach Scott Brooks said: “No. Perk is doing exactly everything we want him to do. He anchors our defense, sets great picks, does a lot of good things that a lot of guys don’t do that you never really get credit for. Hash has played well, too. We have two good players in that spot that help us, that impact the game in ways the stat sheet doesn’t show. No, there’s no competition.”

Brooks is well-aware of Perkins detractors. “The good thing about that is the people don’t make the decision,” Brooks said of fans who want the Thunder to part ways with Perkins. “I look at what he does for us and I get to see it every day. … What he does day in and day out is perfect for what we need. We’re not going to go to him and say, ‘Perk, you need 12 points tonight.’ That’s not how we win. He has to continue to bring that toughness, bring that spirit every night, and he does it. He sets great screens. Unfortunately nobody keeps track of that, including myself, but my eye tells me he sets great screens.”
And, when a player sets great screens, one of his teammates is open and that will be Russ or KD for the score.  Perk also boxes out.  That leaves the lane open for a teammate to grab a rebound.  The Celtics found out that life after Perk wasn't easy.  They still haven't replaced that toughness that he brings - even with KG on the team.  This is one of those cases where Thunder fans who call for the team to amnesty Perk don't know what they've got till it's gone.

It's no surprise that many Celtics fans want him back.  Many are fans who complained about the lack of numbers in the box score when he was in Boston.  But after he was gone, they realized that Perk brings so much more to the team than stats.  If the Thunder made the mistake of letting Perk go, I'm sure the Celtics would gladly welcome him back.   As for Perk, he's happy now in OKC.
Though some Celtics fans wouldn’t mind seeing him back in Boston, Perkins said he is fully committed to the Thunder. “I’m there. I feel good with these guys,” Perkins said. “From the day I got there the whole organization and city embraced me, so it’s been great.”

Comments From the Other Side - OKC/Sixers 11/24

The poor Sixers fans were bummed out right from the beginning of this game because they found out that day that Andrew Bynum's knees are the equivalent of a couple of lumps of Silly Putty and that he probably wouldn't be playing for them at all this season. Lots of love from Sixers fans for Russ and KD although Russ also has his haters as usual. And, as usual there are the ref rants. They were right about one thing. OKC wasn't going to lose 2 in a row. Enjoy today's Comments...

I really don't think we can win this game.

Not expecting a win, but I hope it's a heated, tight game until the end. Can't forget the heated exchange between KD and Evan during our last game versus OKC.

OKC lost to Boston last night.. Yeah, they are on 2nd of back-to-back, but still, what are the odds they lose 2 in a row?

It will be interesting to see if Jrue can hold his own defensively against Westbrook. Westbrook is a different animal to Irving.

Serge Ibaka, Please be kind to Evan Turner. Thanks,

Okc lost to Boston which means sixers have no **** of winning tonight

Ugh. I can see it now. Turner gets his shot blocked about 20 times tonight by Ibaka alone.

The Thunder are proficient shooters for sure...

KD's Pass Hits a Woman and He Makes Amends

This is a little late, but with Thanksgiving and all I'm a little behind. I loved this video. KD is such a good person. I'm sure she's going to remember that for a long, long time.

Some Perk Thoughts

Perk will always be a Celtic.  As he returned to the Garden for the second time, there weren't many of his former teammates left on the team.  Only Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, and Avery Bradley were left from the team that he was traded from.  But Perk still has close ties with those players.  He had Thanksgiving dinner with Rondo and his family.  He had hugs for his former teammates off the court, but as usual, on the court it was all business for Perk.

Some fans complain about Perk because of the fact that he doesn't fill up the stat sheets. But, his coaches, who know him best know the real value of having Kendrick Perkins on their teams. I've said it so many times. Perk's value goes way beyond the stat sheet. From NESN, here's what both coaches had to say:
Before the game, both Thunder coach Scott Brooks and Celtics coach Doc Rivers spoke about the importance of the 28-year-old center, whose impact goes beyond the box score. “Perk’s never going to have big stats,” Rivers said.

“That’s not why you have Perk on your team. He does a lot of other things. You can’t put a number on identity or perception but there is a number. I don’t know what it is, but Perk gives their team that.”

The NBA is still new to Oklahoma City, so it is not very surprising that Thunder fans have looked at the box score and wondered what the big deal is. They see a 6-foot-10 defensive specialist who averages 4.2 points and 4.6 assists per game and wonder how this guy can be more valuable than Serge Ibaka, who averages 14.7 points and 3.4 blocked shots per game. But Perkins is more valuable that Ibaka, not that Ibaka is a slouch.

“The good thing about it is, ‘the people’ don’t make the decisions,” Brooks said. “I look at what he does and I get to see it every day. It’s easy [to say] when you see it through the box scores or you see it once a year, but what he does day in and day out is perfect for what we need. We’re not going to go to him and say, ‘Perk, you need 12 points tonight.’ That’s not how we win. He has to continue to bring that toughness, bring the spirit of competition every night and he does it.”

Comments from the Other Side - OKC/Clippers 11/21

Another team that whines incessantly about the refs. It's not like CP3 and Griffin don't get a whole lot of help from the refs, but I guess that's ok. I hope you enjoy today's comments and I'd like to wish all my OKC friends a very Happy Thanksgiving!

I have confidence we may beatdown the thunder. I feel that if we allow durant to get his but lockdown everyone else, we will win easily. Our defense will carry us.

We got this. Barnes on Durant, is better than Butler on Durant. Westbrick will shoot them out the game or go on fire, I predict the former.

DJ is going to have problems against Perkins

Compared to the Clips' bench, how's OKC's?

Compared to the Clips LA should slaughter them. Maynor/Martin/Jones III/Collison/Thabeet

That #35 guy on that other team is kinda good

Why the hell we leaving Durant of all people open?

What an ugly game so far. Thunder arent the team we should be playing catchup vs. Got a bad feeling

Zach Randolph Fined for Fight with Perk

I'm sure you remember the conversation between Perk and Zach Rondolph at the free throw line that ended up in both of them being ejected. To me, it looked like ZBo was the one instigating the whole thing. Afterward there were reports that altercation continued in the locker room and the NBA was said to be investigating the whole thing. Today, the NBA released this information:
Memphis forward Zach Randolph has been fined $25,000 for confronting Oklahoma City's Kendrick Perkins in the lockerroom area following their ejections with 2:05 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Grizzlies at Thunder game on Nov. 14, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations
I guess Zach found out that if you mess with Perk, you're going to pay for it.  :)  .

It's hard to believe that KD hasn't had a triple double before. I'm sure he may have come close at times but being the humble kid that he is, he doesn't force stats for personal glory. I don't know how anyone can not like this kid. Congratulations to KD on his first triple double. I'm sure there will be many more to come in his career.

Comments from the Other Side - OKC/Warriors 11/18

There are a couple of complaints about the refs but for once they aren't completely blaming the refs for the loss.  Most of the chatter on their boards centered on how back their own players were and how much they hated them.  With all that hate for their own team there wasn't all that much left for the Thunder, although Russ and KMart get some as always.  Enjoy....

We will win but it's gonna be close

Here we gooooooo...who the hell is going to guard westbrook?

Maybe westbrook will just decide to shoot low precentage jumpers for no reason.... LOl its happened before

Man westbrook is strong, took all that contact from dre, and still finished.

KMart Gets a Warning for Flopping

Kevin Martin became the 3rd player to be warned for flopping under the league's new anti-flopping policies. The offending flop can be seen in the video above. Speaking of flopping, if this flop from Reggie Evans doesn't get a warning, the new rules are a joke. Even the referees on the court didn't fall for it.

Comments from the Other Side - OKC/Hornets 11/16

It took until late in the first quarter, but they finally got to the "The Refs are giving them the game" whining.   This is the first time I think that I've seen fans saying they don't like Durant.  Nobody likes Russ     Personally I loved their swagger last night.    You have to feel for a fan base that starts talking about tanking and the lottery 7 games into the season.  Enjoy...

Crowd the lane and let Westbrook shoot 40 times. Put Rivers on him!

I actually think we win this in a comfortable fashion if we play our best game. Unmitigated Westbrook is enough to make me think this. Harden really made a difference for that team. I mean, we played pretty awfully against Houston and made it a 4 point game. I think we win by 7 if everyone shows up in some capacity.

The guy in the pre-game show said "you won't go into the Thunder's house"... This game is being played in New Orleans.

I heard that. He said something about not being able to go into the Thunder's house and outshoot them.

I love the Thunder and all but I hope we smack em, I think we can sneak one on em

I wonder which Hornet Perkins will try to pick a fight with tonight.

Just Perk Being Perk - And I Love It!

Perk and Zach Randolph were jawing at each other at the free throw line.  Apparently, what they said to each other was enough for the refs to toss both of them.  NewsOK has a transcript of the conversation,
Perkins: “I'll meet you by the bus.” Randolph: “I'll beat your (expletive).”
Sounds like Perk. Also sounds like ZBo. Nothing here, keep moving. But, the refs apparently felt that these two guys meant it and didn't want it to come to blows on the court so they ejected both of them. Now, in typical David Stern fashion, the league is "looking into" the incident, including reports that the altercation became physical in the locker room after their ejection. And in typical Perk fashion, had this to say about the incident,(again from NewsOK)
Asked Thursday what led to the incident, Perkins said: “Just too much talking. I wasn't frustrated, but at the same time I have a problem with losing. … You do have to see this team three more times and we can't be showing no signs of weakness.”
Perk will never back down anyone. If the Thunder shows weakness, the next game the Grizzlies will try to exploit that. Perk isn't going to give them the slightest inkling that the Thunder are worried or scared of the Grizzlies. That's one of the things I love about Perk.

Comments from the Other Side - OKC/Grizzlies 11/14

I've been just doing these just for wins but these were pretty entertaining in spite of the loss.  Grizzlies fans seem to have a persecution complex.  Refs out to get them.  ESPN out to get them.  Poor guys.   There's some Thabeet hatred and the usual "No Harden so OKC isn't good any more" comments.      My favorite comment was the one where they said that the refs ejected ZBo because they were mad that the Grizz overcame their efforts to fix the game.  Talk about delusional.  I hope you enjoy these, in spite of the loss.

Can't wait to see this game! We are not the Grizzlies of old and OKC don't have Harden.

No Harden is good but one thing REALLY scares me...Kevin Martin

NOOOOOOO Kevin MARTIN NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Another 3 by Martin nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo That's a flop by Martin NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! ^just getting that out of the way.

Durant and Westbrook really haven't been as strong this year without Harden. It's very surprising. Martin isn't really a play-maker like Harden was he can shoot the lights out but lacks the defense and play-making ability Harden had for OKC.

Perk Doing What Perk Does

Perk is an enforcer. His job is to take the other team's big man out of the game by bodying him, bullying him and generally getting under his skin. Mission Accomplished.

This is an interesting fan base. Apparently they love Russell Westbrook unlike a lot of fans that hate him.  Good to see Perk getting some credit for slowing Varejao as well.   Enjoy the fact that they didn't blame the loss on the refs.  .. Their biggest complaints last night were saved for the Thunder announcers. It's odd for me after listening to Tommy Heinsohn all these years to hear another team's announcers being called homers.

Cavs win in a blowout.

Happy Birthday Perk!!!!

Wishing a very Happy 28th Birthday to Kendrick Perkins.  The best scowl in the NBA!!!   Always my favorite Celtic and Thunder!

Practice Notes: The Ever Quotable Perk

Darnell Mayberry has this great quote from Perk in his Thunder Rumblings today:
  • “It kind of had me scared today in the film room the way the coaches were. I thought we were playing the damn Dream Team tomorrow.”
  • Perkins went on to say the Cavs “are the best pick-and-roll team in the league.” “You’ve got (Dion) Waiters and you got (Kyrie) Irving who can come off and pull up at the 3 at any time,” Perkins said. “I think Irving’s shooting 46 percent. Waiters is shooting 52 percent from the 3, and they both can split the pick-and-roll, get in the paint and cause havoc. So it’s a lot on the bigs. And you’ve got Varejao who’s going to set good screens. So it’s a good challenge for us.”
Perk admitted he remembers the Thunder suffering a 96-90 home loss to the Cavs last year. He said it’s on his mind now. “They snuck up on us,” he said.
Perk never forgets.   The article also talks about Perk's  full court press of Pistons' point guard Brandon Knight.  Perk was firing himself the way he knows best, with defense.

Brooks on Perk’s one-man, full-court press: “We just put that in. The Perk. The Perkinator. He was all over the place. He had a lot of energy, and it was good. We do that with certain teams, (what) we call shadow the backcourt with certain bigs that we don’t feel that are comfortable enough handling the ball, bringing the ball up and making plays. There are some bigs that do like (Joakim) Noah, for instance, in Chicago. We didn’t want to do that with him because he’s a guy that can bring it up the court and make a good play out of it.”
  • Brooks went on to praise Perk’s overall performance against the Pistons. Perk matched his career high with six assists. “Perk had a good game,” Brooks said. “I didn’t realize he had that many assists. I mean, he really had a solid game for us defensively and offensively.”
  • Perk said he was going for 10 assists. “I never had 10 assists before, but I was trying to get it,” he said. “But I was just getting back to that stage of trying to actually set the tone, showing guys, especially young guys that you can also have fun not just scoring the ball but passing the ball also. So just trying to build good habits. That’s about it.”
  • Perkins said Serge Ibaka’s continued growth offensively is not surprising to him. “I knew he was going to get it rolling. I watch Serge, he comes in every night about 7 o’clock getting extra work in. He works so hard, man, and he’s always working on his craft so it’s just paying off.”

Another game, more ref complaints. Not quite as bad as Bulls fans, though. Pistons fans are so busy hating on their own coach and players that they didn't hate on the Thunder as much. Although, Russ did get some hate for his hard foul. Sad when you know your team is going to lose so you cheer for the other team's players on your fantasy team. Enjoy...

We should win this. OKC isn't the same without Harden

Hoping that Westbrick shows up and shoots them out of the game.

Wow Kendrick how do u get beat by Perkins

Durant gets a blocking call in his favor when Knight was in place at the FT line since Durant was about halfcourt. I think that's the longest distance in NBA history where it was called a block.

Some REAL lousy calls

I think Durant didn't raise the ball to shoot until after the whistle, but compared to previous experiences in OKC we are doing well by the refs.

Bulls fans sure are tough on point guards. I think they are just insecure about their own point guard so they have to trash all the others.  As much as they bashed Russ, they actually were nice to him compared to what they say about Rondo. Of course, there are the complaints about how the refs are stealing the game from them. Seems to be a constant these days. Enjoy today's comments!

The Bulls care about this game. We got this.

Hopefully Russel Westbrook plays for us tonight...And watch out for Ibaka mid range game...The dude is money from there...

Easy loss. Remember playing OKC last season without Rose? *shudders*

Without Harden, OKC is not as scary.

OKC is not a great road team but a really good team, for a national game they aren't likely to be flat or unmotivated.

I like OKC a lot but I don't think they are THAT much better.

I hope Kirk gets all up in Westbrooks face, to the point where he needs to play hero ball and stuffs everything up. That would be pleasant for me.

While I think Westbrook would go off on just about anyone, I'm almost certain that he'll look like prime D-Wade out there if Nate is on him.

Thunderup.com has another photo and more info on the new unis. I have to say Serge wears his quite nicely.
The OKC Thunder will wear a new Navy Alternate jersey on Friday against the Detroit Pistons at Chesapeake Energy Arena. The OKC Thunder will be wearing the new jerseys for the following road games: Brooklyn (Dec. 4); Minnesota (Dec. 20); Washington (Jan. 7); Dallas (Jan. 18); Los Angeles Lakers (Jan. 27); Utah (Feb. 12); Denver (March 1); San Antonio (March 11); Indiana (April 5); Golden State (April 11).
The new OKC Thunder Alternate Uniforms will go on sale this Friday. Thunder Up!

Comments from the Other Side - Raptors 11/6

You almost have to feel sorry for Raptors fans.  Any fanbase that starts talking about tanking and the lottery just a couple games into the season has lost all hope.   They alternate between insults and good things about the Thunder and, of course, complain about the refs.  At least most of them are smart enough to know that the refs wouldn't have mad a difference in the outcome.  Enjoy today's Comments....

I hope we can win but don't see it happening.

God I hope Lowry outplays Westbrook, Can't stand him.

We need Harden to continue throwing hex dust at OKC.

Fields is going to shut out KD

Okc is there for the taking. This is better than when perk got traded to okc and Boston went emo.

Hopefully we can encourage Westbrick to chuck while Lowry puts up a 50 PER and we steal one

Lowry needs to get in Westbrook's head and let him take OKC out of the game.
